Pick a content origin and a client city, choose a file size, and watch a simulated request travel direct from origin vs via the nearest edge PoP. All latency numbers come from the documented toy model below — they are not real network measurements.
RTT(d) = 2 × d / 200,000 km/s — light in fiber ≈ 200,000 km/s.
hops(d) = max(2, round(d / 1500)) — one router hop ≈ 1.5 ms.
transfer(MB, bw) = MB × 8 / bw × 1000 ms.
Direct: 1.5×RTT(origin,client) + 1.5×hops + transfer(size, 60 Mbps)
Edge hit: 1.5×RTT(client,PoP) + 1.5×hops + transfer(size, 300 Mbps)
Edge miss: edge-hit + RTT(origin,PoP) + transfer(size, 150 Mbps) (PoP refills from origin)
Distances are haversine great-circle km. The nearest PoP to the client is
chosen automatically. Animation speed is fixed for watchability — packet
motion on the map is not to scale with the ms values.
